David takes the shell home and feels sorry for the sea trapped within, so he invites the waters to come out, and they do.
The journey from fear to understanding is poignantly portrayed. David’s ability to see another side of the overwhelming waves empowers him, just as such insight can empower us all. This classic tale is about so much more than a little boy and his fear of the sea.
Each of Jane Tanners illustrations are works of art. I’d love to have them hanging on my walls. Instead, it is with great joy that I return to the pages of There’s a Sea in My Bedroom to discover a little more about David and the sea each time.
