Kit Barrington, heir to Frost Hollow Hall drowns while skating on the frozen lake of the family estate. Ten years later in 1881, Tilly, after a dare, falls into the same lake while skating. She is pulled to the surface by an underwater angel who returns to her in a dream, insisting she find the truth about his death. Is the ghost Kit? Why has he picked her, and why ten years after his death?
This novel has several sub-stories weaving in and out that complement one another, and enhance a powerful storyline and plot made more so by ghostly spirits and romance.
Themes of loss and grief, truth and lies, create a beautifully moving mystery which brought tears to my eyes. The foibles of the characters shine a light upon human weakness and the freedom found in unconditional forgiveness. I loved this novel and found many strong messages to reflect on and learn from within its pages.
